Meetup.com is an online social networking portal that helps people organize and meet in the real world. Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest, such as politics, books, games, movies, health, pets, careers or hobbies. There is a charge to start a meetup group which starts at $12/month.

Perhaps the best way to get acquainted with meetup.com is to check out an active group, like the Hudson Valley Hikers Meetup Group. Click around at the different sections like the calendar, mailing list and message board to get a feel for how they are used.  

If you decide that your Livable Streets Group will be well served by Meetup.com, go ahead and create a group. Once it is all set up, you can send out a message to all your group members using the Discussion mailing list to invite them to join your meetup.com group.
