Livable Streets Groups to Ning.com Migration Instructions

LS Groups Migration Instructions > Ning.com

Ning.com is an online social networking platform that allows people to form their own social networks. It has a lot of the same functionality as Livable Streets Groups, so it might be a good destination for migrating your group. To replace the mailing list feature of Livable Streets Groups, Ning has online forums and messaging.  Ning has a blogs feature and a "Notes" area that would allow you to store information currently in your group’s Pages. Ning also has many other advanced social networking tools like activity streams, user profiles, photo and video uploads, and an online chat feature. Ning is well integrated with other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

To get a feel for Ning, take a look at the Birmingham Cyclist Ning network. You’ll see in this network that Ning also supports the ability to have subgroups within a network. See subgroups.

There are no automated ways of migrating data from a Livable Streets Group to a Ning network, but you can copy and paste blog posts and pages pretty effectively. When you have your Ning network all set up, you can send out a message to all your Livable Streets Group members using the Discussion mailing list to invite them to join your Ning network.
