Livable Streets Groups to WordPress.com Migration Instructions

These instructions are for people who would like to move information from their Livable Streets Group blog and Pages section to a WordPress.com blog.

  1. First go to the blog section of your Livable Streets Group and click on "Administer your blog".  See screenshot.
  2. Click on "Manage" and then on "Export".  See screenshot.
  3. Click on "Download Export file".
  4. Go to WordPress.com and sign up for a blog.
  5. In the admin screen of your new blog, go to "Tools" in the menu, then click "Import".
  6. Choose WordPress as the type of system to import from.
  7. Input your file and click "Upload…".
  8. Once you have finished the upload process, go to the Posts section of your blog to see your newly imported posts and comments.

You’ll now need to fix the images in your blog posts.  For each post, edit the post and do the following for each image:
  1. Find the corresponding image on your Livable Streets Group blog.
  2. Right-click on the image and save it to your desktop.
  3. Back on the WordPress edit screen, delete the existing image and then import the new image file from your desktop using the Add Image button.  See screenshot.
  4. Click on the "Insert into Post" button once the image has finished uploading.

To migrate individual Pages from a Livable Streets Group to your new wordpress.com blog:

  1. Go to the page you want to move and click on "Edit this page".
  2. Select all of the page information from the edit screen and copy it to your clipboard.
  3. In your WordPress blog admin screen, go to the "Pages" menu and click "Add new".
  4. Enter a title for your page.
  5. Paste in the contents of your clipboard to the main edit box for the page.  

You should see that the formatting of the page will be intact, including the images. The images, however, are merely links from the Livable Streets Groups site. You will need to import them individually to your wordpress.com page. To do that, follow these steps for each image:

  1. Find the corresponding image on your Livable Streets Group Page.
  2. Right-click on the image and save it to your desktop.
  3. Back on the WordPress edit screen, delete the existing image and then import the new image file from your desktop using the Add Image button.  See screenshot.
  4. Click on the "Insert into Post" button once the image has finished uploading.

The last thing you will need to do is to fix any links to Livable Streets Groups to point to new locations.
